Should you get into a philosophical discussion with Lyra, there are several sensitive points which she is quite likely to hit.

1. The Church. She hates it. In Lyra's world, the Church is extremely powerful, extremely corrupt, and completely ruthless. It's a serious force of evil, really. And you will have a very difficult time convincing Lyra that any Church can be out to do people any good. She will attack the institution without mercy.

2. God. Canonically, God and His representatives (notably Metatron) are a force keeping humans back. Lyra is aware of this. She believes in human will and is of the mind that all gods, especially the God of the Church, are corrupt. She has no problem expressing this opinion. (Though DDD is changing her view on gods in general. Maybe. Just a little bit.)


I am aware that these are sensitive topics, and that not all people will be comfortable with Lyra church-bashing. If it seems likely to come up, I will try to warn you and steer the conversation away if you wish me to do so. If you ever become very uncomfortable in a conversation with Lyra, just tell me and I'll do my best to change the subject or, if necessary, just let the conversation drop.

Also, if you would like to avoid the topic completely, comment here and I'll remember that for the future.

I think I would have liked to be affected. It would be really interesting to be a boy for a few days. And there's all sorts of things I could have done at the colleges, even Jordan, that they won't let me do because I'm a girl. And if I messed anything up, no one could say it was me!

It's not like being some sort of animal without any arms. You could do all sorts of things.

Hmph.

I know Philip says it's too dangerous, but could we please ask him again to let me help you study dragons over the summer holiday? I've already read the book three times, and I've always listened to everything you say about them, and I won't upset Philip by getting too close though I don't I'd be in any more danger than I was from the Armored Bears. And I know how to take very thorough notes and everything!

I haven't been using this much, there's been so much to do here!

Before, I never really got to find out much about Will's world. There're so many things here to learn about! Not just cinema, but television! It's amazing! And airplanes, I love watching those! I never would have thought something like that could fly. Even just looking at maps is fascinating, there are all sorts of different countries. And I think reading about this world's history can help me find some ways to fix my world.

And Dr. Malone's been letting me help with her research! I can't do all that much, of course, but it's wonderful!

And I've been spending lots of time with Will, of course. That's the best part. That's better than anything.

That was the worst thing that has ever happened to me! Well, not really. ...But none of you need to know that. I missed a week of classes, and just before finals! If it weren't for Pan they'd never have believed I was sick.

These things have to be stopped.
